Sneakers Left Behind
While growing up in the Homecrest section of Brooklyn, there were always pairs of sneakers hanging from the telephone wires. When we moved away from East 13th Street in 1978, I flung my Converse All-Stars (white hightops) up on the wires in front of our house. They hung there for many years as a reminder of a happy childhood once lived on the street below.
